Destination: Playwriting Contest
Ever watched a play and thought "Hey, I could write one of those too"? If so, then the Destination: Playwriting contest is for you. The 2009 One Act Play Competition was comprised entirely of brand new plays which were submitted as part of the Destination: Playwriting Contest. The playwrights had the opportunity to participate in the casting and direction of their own script and then were able to watch them performed for the audience at the competition. Then, that same audience voted for the best script among the ones performed.
In order to have the same experience next year, we need your new scripts.
Scripts should have a running time of 5 to 15 minutes and must be either an original work of the playwright (or collaboration of two playwrights) or a legal adaptation. Legal adaptations are plays which are 1) adapted from a story or article in the public domain or 2) adapted from a story for which the playwright has secured authorization from the original author to adapt.
Read our complete guidelines here.
In coordination with the Playwriting Contest we also have our Destination: Playwriting unit guide which will take the aspiring playwright from original idea through to completed script. We also have an online playwriting workshop offered periodically throughout the year where we work through the Unit Guide in a sequential fashion by meeting once a week online.
