DTC's First Annual New Play Contest

Destination Theatre Company's "Destination: Playwriting" Contest is designed to give St. Louis area 5th graders and older a chance to exhibit their writing talents and abilities in the creation of a one-act play.  Once all submissions have been received, a group of judges will select finalists whose plays will be cast, rehearsed and presented by the theatre company, with directorial input from the playwrights, at the company’s Annual New Play Competition and Dessert Auction.  All playwrights submitting plays will receive one complementary ticket to the New Play Festival performance and will be recognized at the performance.  Audience members at the festival performance will vote for their favorite play.  The winner and all finalists will receive their awards at the performance.

Also, follow the links below to find out about our "Destination: Playwriting" Unit Guide for individual study of the techniques of playwriting.

"How do I know what to write about?" you may be asking.  There are many sites online that deal with plot (story) statements for plays and stories.  Two such sites are listed below.  As these sites are not sponsored in any way by the theatre company, we cannot be held liable for any of their content.  We also do not guarantee that a script based on all of the provided story ideas would be acceptable for the theatre company's use (see contest guidelines for content criteria) While we have read some of the examples, there are more than 2000 on one of the sites and it is not possible for us to read all of them.  If you know or find any other quality sites containing plot or story ideas, let us know so that we can pass them on.  The site addresses are:
