Playwriting Contest Revised
We've made some significant changes to our playwriting contest for this
year: First, the age limitations have been lifted.
Now, anyone who desires to write and enter a play may do so. The two
categories have not changed, we still have youth and adult. The
requirement to direct your show has been lifted. You may still
assist with the direction of the script if you desire but you may also opt
not to assist. You can also audition for other plays included in the
One Act Competition (although you may not audition for your own
script. If you would like to know why, contact
us). The cost has been removed so you may now enter the
playwriting contest absolutely free. If you participate in the One
Act Competition (except with assisting in the direction of your own piece)
you will still need to pay the technical fee of $10 a person or $15 a
family. Finally, it is now allowable to use adaptations of public
domain works. This allows the use of many popular stories and also
scripture. Confirmation that the story is in fact in the public
domain and that the adaptation is your own may be required prior to being
produced. Many websites exist which can point you to a number of
public domain stories available. Our playwriting unit has been
successful in the past. We now have a second edition with
information on adapting both popular secular stories and also adapting
scripture.
Check
out the full details on the unit guide. To express your interest
in participating in the class, email
