Knee-Deep Thoughts from our playwrights
John Christian
 | John
Christian is retired. Previous careers (in reverse order):
Database administrator, computer programmer, social worker,
carpenter. He leads singing for a nursing home worship service every
Sunday, and preaches there twice a month. He also sings in choir. He
has acted in three Destination Theatre performances. Other acting
experience includes high school plays (many years ago) and a couple
plays at West County Assembly of God. He sang a solo as Marcus in
Who Will Call Him King of Kings three different years. He is
also using his carpentry skills for DTC sets and props.
John has 8-year-old twin grandsons who live with his older son and
daughter-in-law in the Seattle area. His younger son works for
Google and lives in the San Francisco Bay area. He married Janet in
October, 2008 and now has three step-grandchildren, Isaac, Bekah and
Rachel, whom he enjoys immensely. |
Watching live drama is a shared experience: Shared with
the others in the audience and with the performers. It has an immediacy
and intensity that TV or movies can't replicate. It's all real-time,
with no replay option. That makes it special in today's slick impersonal
world.
Writing a dramatic piece is not shared, of course. But
the expectation of sharing is built in. The writer wants to share an
idea, a feeling, or an experience in a way that will touch actors and
audiences at multiple levels and multiple ways. And, if done well,
everyone grows a little.
