J.B. A Play in Verse--By Archibald MacLeish

The Summer 2009 dinner theatre production was the Archibald MacLeish classic play J.B.-A Play in Verse.  This play, written in 1958, is a World War II era modernization of the Biblical book of Job.

MacLeish's title character, J.B., is a New York Banker whose life is turned upside-down when God allows Satan to impact his life through the death of his children and the loss of his millions.  However, like the Biblical character of Job, J.B. refuses to accept his wife's request to "Curse God and Die" and, in the end, recovers all that has been taken away from him and accepts it.

Many great characters exist in this re-telling.  In fact, a total of 41 characters need to be filled for this production.  Some multi-casting is possible but roles will be available for nearly everyone who auditions!
